Joel Leftwich is a Managing Director in The Glover Park Group’s Government Affairs Division. He provides strategic and policy counsel to clients and co-leads GPG Food, the firm’s food and agriculture practice.

Prior to joining GPG, Joel served as Majority Staff Director for the U.S. Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry under Chairman Pat Roberts (R-Kan.) In that role, Joel lead the committee’s political and policy strategy on all legislative matters which included P.L. 114-216 (National Bioengineered Food Disclosure Standard), Country of Origin Labeling; S. 2917 (Commodity End-User Relief Act); and S. 3136 (Improving Child Nutrition Integrity and Access Act). 

In addition to his work on the Senate Ag Committee, Joel served in several other public sector roles.  He handled conservation and forestry policy for the Office of Congressional Relations at the U.S. Department of Agriculture under Secretaries Ann Veneman and Mike Johanns.  He worked for U.S. Senator Pat Roberts’ personal office managing his agriculture, nutrition, transportation, and energy policy portfolios.  Joel got his start in government with former U.S. House of Representatives member Jim Ryun (R-Kan.)

With many years spent in the public sector, Joel also has experience in the private sector as Senior Director of Public Policy and Government Affairs for PepsiCo, Inc. and Program Manager for Federal Affairs for DuPont. In these roles, Joel helped craft the companies’ policies and regulatory positions regarding nutrition, food safety, ingredient supply, and sustainability.

Born and raised in Wellington, Kansas, Joel graduated from Friends University in nearby Wichita and earned his graduate degree from Loyola University of Chicago.
