Levesque, Dr. Crystal
Assistant Professor of Monogastric Nutrition
South Dakota State University
Dr. Crystal Levesque is an assistant professor of monogastric nutrition at South Dakota State University. Her research program is focused on two primary areas: 1) understanding maternal nutrient utilization and requirements during pregnancy and lactation to optimize offspring pre- and post-natal development, and 2) the impacts of alternative feeds and dietary additives on piglet growth, immune function and gut health post-weaning. One of Dr. Levesque’s greatest joys of working in academia is seeing the wonder in the eyes of students when they accomplish what seems to be an insurmountable goal.
Dr. Levesque was born and raised on a broiler and mixed small grain farm in central Saskatchewan, Canada. She completed her Ph.D. at the University of Alberta in amino acid metabolism during pregnancy, followed by post-doctoral training at Prairie Swine Center (pig as a model) and University of Guelph (energy and amino acid metabolism).
